I think I had a minor heart attack

I logged onto the student inquiry system to check my exam number, and I decided I’d check my schedule to see what next semester’s finals schedule will be. It showed me this semester’s schedule, and something didn’t look right. I’m only taking four finals (evidence, property II, admin and tax), and it had a lot more entries. One was law review, so that’s ok. Another was Appellate Advocacy, so I wouldn’t need to take a final for it either. Also on the list was the wonderful 2 hour class Jurisprudence. I thought I’d dropped the class the second day of the semester. I hadn’t been to the class all semester and the final exam was last week. At this point I’m beginning to panic.

Suddenly, the wife calls to talk about one of our many cats. I know she’ll freak out if she finds out that I may have failed a course, so I can’t tell her until after I know for sure. After several awkward minutes, I get off the phone and run to the registrar. After typing furiously on her computer, the woman told me that the course is still on my schedule, but it is listed (on her computer) as being dropped. That was a truly terrifying ten minutes; it was about as bad as the time in undergrad I skipped a final exam.

I missed a final once in undergrad.
The professor told me the wrong day.
I still got an A. Who knew all you had to do to get A's was miss a final.

Okay, it's sad when you find out about something this serious by reading your husband's blog... I may have had a minor heart attack just reading it. Sam, tell me these things before you publish them on the internet.

Uh oh, Sam, you're in trouble! Yet another example of the registrar's glaring incompetency. You see, if they used these funny things called computers and - I don't know - hired a PROGRAMMER, (or at least someone vaguely technologically inclined) they might finally be able to get their stuff right. I never thought I'd say this, but I actually miss UT, where they have an entire team of computer nerds dedicated solely to making the registrar's functions run smoothly (you know, final exams, course scheduling, registration, FREE add/drops, course roster updates). They're hidden in the basement of the tower. I used to work there & even had a crush on one of the nerds once. :)

That sounds like one of those recurring nightmares, where you're either naked in public or you've missed the whole semester and now it's final time.

Except in your case, it was almost true. Wow--wonder what YOUR nightmares will be like?
