I'm walking into my apartment at about 8:00 pm; I'm in my suit and I'm tired from the stupid moot court round. As I'm walking in, some "trick-or-treater" (I'm sorry, a windbreaker is not a costume) sees my suit and asks "what are you supposed to be, a lawyer?" "I am a lawyer" I responded, walke d around him, went inside. I then had the pleasure of sitting inside and ignoring the little bastard banging on the door. I'm sorry, but I don't see how some quasi-pagan ritual gives you an entitlement to (and me a duty to provide) candy. I should have given him a Q-Tip (or whatever the Wal-Mart brand call it, (S-Tips?)) and told him not to stick it in his ear.

I hate kids.

That was a nice lawyer costume you wore on Halloween though. New tie and everything! And admit it, you didn't answer the door because you wanted all the candy for yourself. At least, that's my excuse.

Did you tick or treat when you were a kid? Did somebody give you raisins or a oothbrush and that is why you are so bitter. And by the way, I am pretty sure it is a violation of the bar to say you are a lawyer before you actually are one.

No, I became so bitter the first Halloween that I stayed home. Some little kid started ringing the doorbell, and continued to do so for 45 seconds until I could get up from the table (we were having dinner at the time) and get to the door. The kid was a little brat, and his mom thought it was the funniest thing she'd seen. I don't so much mind the concept of Halloween, but I can't stand the sense of entitlement.

Though I haven’t taken pro res, I don’t think I violated any sort of ethical rule by stating that I’m a lawyer. I made no attempt to give advice or otherwise practice law without a license. No reliance was taken and no harm could be shown. I could very well be wrong, since I’ve only done a few quick Lexis searches on the topic.
