End-o-Summer News Round Up
Many things have happened over the summer, and Jeff “Tickle Me” McGuire suggested that I post them.
School
After working for a class action/mass tort firm for the summer, I’ve found my true calling. I would like few things better than to spend the rest of my career writing pretrial motions about the FRCP. I’m no longer worried about tax, so now I can (1) avoid those horrible tax courses and (2) try my hand at moot court. Oh happy day.
I’m not sure if they want this circulated, but here goes. The two people from glorious §b who were the biggest academic threats (and rivals for editorial positions) have transferred to a school outside the loop but inside the beltway. Combine this with the reported five people from §c and others from §§a and b, and all of the curves in the school just got easier for everyone; we’ll all move up a grade increment in our classes.
home life
The wife transferred out of her horrible store and into a very nice, upper middle class store in Pearland. I know it isn’t very PC, but lower income people (such as in our part of Pasadena) are, on average, extremely rude to cashiers and anyone else whom they can boss around.
We’re attempting to get out of our lease in the DMZ. We’ve sent out the complaint letters and were planning on filing suit next week. Unfortunately, they’re fixing the swimming pool today (one of our two biggest arguments), so we’re reevaluating out chances of success. We may very well be stuck in Harris County’s Purgatory for twelve more agonizing months.

Um, Sambo...
It's inside both the loop and the beltway. :P
*gives Sam a KeyMap to read in his copious amounts of free-time*
Crap.
You'll have to try hard to beat the Dream Team in moot court, brother...
I think the only one dreaming is you.
Burn!

*re-reads Darcy's post*
Um, Darcy... Sam just said it... the "Dream Team" has already left!
:p
At least I have the balls to sign my own name, jackass...
ouch! good comeback, darcy.
sam, if you're not going to be a tax attorney, who am i going to ask about tax stuff? i was counting on you!
Darcy: Very well put.
RHM: You can still ask me tax questions and I'll take my best guess. I doubt you'll have too many questions; I just picked up a copy of the tax code and it's only a few thousand pages. Nothing you can't handle.
"ouch! good comeback, darcy."
"Darcy: Very well put."
Um, not really.
An ad hominem attack as a response to friendly banter... bad form D-Love.... ;)
Ad hominem implies that it is leveled against a person. Since you thus far are not a person but merely a cartoon character, I doubt ad hominem applies. Also, here at 12(e) (unlike those other stuck-up FRCP blogs), we’re friendly when we insult each other. Unfortunately there is no “sarcasm” tag in html (/sarcasm? /tongue in cheek? /snappy but lighthearted comeback?), so what was meant in good fun can come out sounding rather mean, almost like a 12(f) or even 37(a)(2)(B). After the incident with Buford’s grades, I think Elizabeth would agree.
I realize that I’m the only person who is amused by FRCP jokes, but its my blog.
Sam: I concur 100%!
it takes a "special" person to be amused by FRCP jokes. ;)
yeah, i got that selected tax statutes and blahblahblah book the other day, the one with the map. that map scared the crap out of me.
unfortunately, if i'm going to do my bleeding heart liberal thing and help poor people for almost no pay and zero glory, i need to get a good grasp of tax. it comes up often, along with property problems and everything else under the sun. sigh.
Please tell me that you haven't all bought your books yet...
I ordered them off of Amazon and save $60. Unfortunately, I forgot to check which editions they were. I hoping this works out ok.
*indignant*
I am not a cartoon character.
*does Snoopy-happy-dance followed by a very Homer-esque...*
Snoopy?!?! Mmmmmm... unprocessed hotdog.... *drool*
Ok so I am.
:P
OK so i forgot my username and password... ill figure it out later... too busy working on this stupid write-on thing... ok so i may be the only poor sap out of the loop but who exactly transferred... i can take two guesses at who from our section but i'd love to know for sure... by the way this is "Whats his face" ;o)
The academic rank and grade distribution sheets are posted on the Registrar's bulletin board if anyone is interested.
Dear Sam,
I still have your DVD. And no, i haven't watched it yet. I promise to watch it this week.
I don't know how i feel about this Sam As Non-Tax Attorney thing. Are you sure Tax isn't your calling? I mean, really, really sure?
Best of luck to the sisters, i mean, yeah, you know what i mean.
congrats to lauren on her transfer. maybe employees there don't steal from the store with customers' credit cards?
I'm one of them!
by "one of them," are you referring to "the sisters" or the shady employees?
just kidding. i'm guessing you're the one who shares his initials with the Pope that passed away last semester. it shouldn't be too hard to guess who i am if you don't already know.
anyway, congrats. i have some good friends at UH. i think you'll like it there.
Thanks P-man, but I'm not the ex-Pope-name-sharin'-fella.
