new wife

I’m pleased to announce that I have a new wife. Lauren “I’d rather go to Iraq than the kitchen” is gone and Lauren “are you sure you don’t want me to cook some more chicken?” has replaced her. A few days ago she, completely randomly, decided she wanted to cook something. She seemed to enjoy herself, because she loves it now. After standing all day at work, she spent hours making what appears to be a metric ton of fruit salad. The up side is that she can cook healthy food; this will greatly aid Operation Live Past 45. With her help and some luck, I might not have the heart attack until I see the top of the hill. She’ll probably stop cooking once she realizes that I’m postponing her exclusive control of our money, the life insurance payout and her second husband Marco the pool-boy. Until then, I’ll enjoy the new wife.

Quick Shrimp: take 1 pound peeled/deveined shrimp (usually large), 1 stick of butter, 4 tbsp olive oil, 3 cloves garlic, and 6 tbsp brandy or red cooking wine, salt, pepper, and 2 tbsp parsley.

slice the garlic
wash the shrimp and dry,
melt butter and oil, add garlic and shrimp and fry over high heat for 3-4 minutes, tunring once. drizzle brandy over shrimp, then add pepper, salt and parsley and serve with garlic bread or spaghetti noodles.
It ain't healthy, but it's good.

If you don't like seafood, I can get you a pretty good chicken recipe, too.

WHF: No one taught the wife to cook, but no one taught me either. My dad tried to teach me to use the grill but he stopped when he realized how quickly I could burn the house down.

Steve: I'm not much on shrimp, but chicken is good, and good for you (unless it's fried).

Let's see... chicken...

I told you the easiest one, take some chicken, put it in a ziploc bag, add 8 oz. Italian dressing, marinate all day in the fridge, then bake at 350 for 30 minutes, or until white all the way through.

If you want a different recipe, try 1/3 cup soy sauce, 1/3 cup coke, 3 garlic cloves, basil, salt, pepper and thyme (just a couple shakes of thyme), and mix together, marinate chicken for 2-4 hours at room temp, or all day in fridge and either bake or fry until done. This is pretty good with rice. Add a little cayenne if you want some kick...

sam, did you delete a post? if so, you broke a cardinal rule of blogging. deleting posts because you aren't happy with the comments is a no-no. shame on you.

i'm with WHF. sexism aside, lots of women these days don't know how to cook (not that they have to or anything...). thankfully, i lucked out with my gf. she can cook all kinds of great dishes. but my scrambled eggs and breakfast tacos are still the absolute greatest in the city of houston.

sam, ask her to try salmon. it's easy to cook and doesn't take long. all you really need is teriyaki sauce, lemon, and some orange marmalade. cooking instructions are all over the net. ask google.

Steve: that sounds hard.

P-Man: Based on a talk with Elizabeth, I felt that was the best resolution to the situation; it was a misunderstanding and we're still friends. Keep your cardinal rules off my body.

I'm not too big on salmon, but I'll pass the word along.

hey, sayeth the ladies, why cook if we don't have to? i can cook, but if my bf will cook for me, i'll certainly let him. well, except that when he cooks, he manages to dirty EVERY SINGLE DISH AND UTENSIL in the kitchen. he can make a salad and somehow manage to dirty 18 pans. it's quite a talent.

so basically we just eat out as much as possible.
