the hell?
Today several people asked me if I was going to the rodeo tonight. I thought it was strange that, for all the nights that the rodeo is held, so many people would ask me today; I figured it was some SBA or BOA drinking function, so I didn’t think anything of it. It turns out that the top students (I’ve heard from five to ten) from each section are invited to something at the rodeo to schmooze with prospective employers. More so than no knowing my class rank, this really upsets me. I know for a fact that I did better than a few of the people who asked me. I know who made a fair number of the highest grades in various sections, so the best an unknown person could do (by getting the an unaccounted for A or A+) would be a 3.96.
I want to complain to someone (besides the readers of this), but I have no clue to whom I should complain. I know it would likely be a waste of time, but there would be at least a chance to suck up to hiring partners. Furthermore, the principle of the thing bothers me. I checked my transcripts and they haven’t lowered my grade (and they won’t, so long as they don’t find out about those bribes), so it just upsets me that they screwed up. I know it sounds petty and annoying, but I am petty and annoying.

I would be raising unbelievable HELL right now. I would first go to Green, then to the Alfini. I hope the story isn't not true...Did you go and talk to someone today? I'd be at the rodeo looking for them myself right now.
i'd be pissed, too. and i'd blame the registrar's office, but only because they're mean to me. what's up with the level of bitchiness in the registrar's office anyway? are they bitter because they don't have the technology to compute a grade point average or schedule a classroom?
ok sam, this is your moment to shine, or as Andrew so eloquently puts it, raise unbelievable HELL. if anyone deserves to schmooze with lush hiring partners, it's you. do as Andrew and red.hot say. talk to Green, and if he's not around, Alfini. I know one of the student assistants (read: secretary) that works in the Dean's suite. i'm sure she could give you some advice on how to pursue this.
I found out more about this and it has nothing per se to do with employers it is more getting top recruits to come to South Texas by showing them a good time and laying it on thick to show them how great the school is that we can spend our tuition money sending a bunch of people to eat and drink for free and see the rodeo.
So my guess is they picked people who were well ranked but who were also known to be on the social side of life, also they had high ranking org reps as well like for BOA SBA etc.
